QMI’s School Programs

Connecting Industry with the Workforce of the Future

For more than 15 years, QMI has been working to connect students in schools with careers in manufacturing. Our programs have included workshops, industry tours, mentoring and work experience. They are designed to show students and educators just how interesting, highly skilled and exciting a career in manufacturing can be with varied roles that can take you all over the world.

  • Women Who Weld

In Australia only 1% of First Class Welders are women, which is why QMI’s Women Who Weld program is so important. It not only gives high school women the chance to try welding in a safe and inclusive environment but it also connects them to industry.

  • Gateway to Industry

The Gateway to Industry Schools Program for Advanced Manufacturing was designed, developed and run by QMI since 2009. Funded and supported by the Queensland Government, this industry-led program has launched countless careers in manufacturing.

  • Structured Learning

The Structured Workplace Learning Program provides students with four week’s intensive manufacturing work experience. Successful students gain skills and industry connections and also two QCE points. This course is fully accredited by the QCAA.

  • Other Programs

QMI has a wide range of programs to engage students. These include industry tours, lean workshops, CNC programming, 3D printing, programs showcasing the manufacturing genius of Australia’s First Nations people and turning a school’s waste into income.
